Going Deeper (31st May ’26)

Each week we’re publishing some questions to think about based on the Sunday messages & Bible readings.

These can be used in home groups, with others or on your own, and are designed to help you engage in the passage and themes in more depth and reflect on how God might be speaking to you through them.

Icebreaker Question

If you were cast on a reality TV show that forced you to live in the wilderness for a time, how do you think you’d cope?

Reading & Questions

Read John 10:1-10

  1. When we say we need to understand ‘the context’ of a Bible passage what do we mean? And why is it important?
  2. Israel understood itself very much as the sheep of God’s flock. Ezekiel 34 1-16 bears this out. What other Old Testament passages use the motif of God as shepherd?
  3. What does it mean to say that Jesus is the ‘gate for the sheep’?
  4. Have you ever been in a situation where you felt in danger and you sought God for safety or help? What happened? What did you learn?
  5. In what ways are you tempted to look for safety/security in the world rather than in Jesus?

Closing Prayer

Conclude this time together by praying for the world, our church, for those you love and for each other.

Pray for each other and ask for God to help us trust him alone for our security.

Pray for those living in conflict situations or war zones. Pray for those who do not feel safe. Pray that they would know the protection of the sheep pen and the love of Jesus today.
