Going Deeper (30th Aug ’26)

Each week we’re publishing some questions to think about based on the Sunday messages & Bible readings.

These can be used in home groups, with others or on your own, and are designed to help you engage in the passage and themes in more depth and reflect on how God might be speaking to you through them.

Icebreaker Question

Think of someone you've met (or hoped to meet) who was very important to you, such as a future spouse, a job interviewer, a respected leader, or a celebrity.
How did you prepare beforehand, and what did that preparation say about how much the meeting mattered to you?

Opening Prayer

Father God,
Thank You that we can come into Your presence today.
Thank You that through Jesus we are welcomed by Your grace.
As we reflect on this Psalm together, help us to be honest about our lives, open to Your Spirit, and eager to grow in righteousness.
Guide our discussion and draw us closer to You and to one another.
In Jesus' name, Amen.

Reading & Questions

Read Psalm 15

  1. Why do you think the Bible treats coming into God's presence so seriously? How does the imagery of Sinai (Exodus 19-20), and the tabernacle (Exodus 40) help us understand God's holiness?
  2. Do we sometimes fail to treat the act of coming into the presence of God in worship with the seriousness it deserves? In what ways?
  3. The sermon emphasised that righteousness is relational, involving both God and other people. How do our relationships with family, neighbours, colleagues, and those in need reflect our relationship with God?
  4. James emphasised that if God judged us according to his righteousness, then none of us would be able to stand in his presence. However, the promise of the Gospel is that Jesus stands in our place, and has entered into the holy place so that we too can be with God in him (see Hebrews 9). What difference does it make to us to receive this grace of God, and to know that we can come before God through Christ rather than through our own efforts? How does this truth affect the way we approach worship, prayer and daily life?
  5. The sermon challenged us to ask 'Lord, what do I need to repent of today?' What practices can help us regularly examine our lives and remain open to the Holy Spirit's transforming work?

Closing Prayer

Spend some time praying together, thanking God that although we fall short of his righteousness and holiness, Jesus has made a way for us to come into God's presence.
Pray that he would help each of us this week to walk in his ways, to love others well, and to live with integrity and truth.
Pray that he would continue to shape us to be more like Jesus.
