Going Deeper (2nd Aug ’26)

Each week we’re publishing some questions to think about based on the Sunday messages & Bible readings.

These can be used in home groups, with others or on your own, and are designed to help you engage in the passage and themes in more depth and reflect on how God might be speaking to you through them.

As there was no sermon this week, we're going back into the archives to think about a message Julia shared last summer on Psalm 73. Click below to watch it!

Icebreaker Question

Tell us about a time when your perspective completely changed — not because the situation changed, but because you did.

Opening Prayer

Father God, we come to You as Asaph did — sometimes confused, sometimes frustrated, sometimes feeling our feet slipping.
Draw us into Your sanctuary today.
Reorder our hearts, steady our steps, and help us see our lives as you do.
Where bitterness has taken root, plant trust.
Where envy has clouded our vision, restore joy.
And as we open Your Word, guide us by Your Spirit into truth, hope, and confidence in You alone. Amen.

Reading & Questions

Read Psalm 73

  1. Where do you most resonate with Asaph’s struggle in your own life at the moment — envy, frustration at injustice, feeling like your efforts aren’t rewarded or something else?
  2. What was it that helped Asaph? V 16-17
  3. What does entering the ‘sanctuary of God’ look like for you? How and when do you draw near to God and how does it change you?
  4. Asaph ends with confidence: ‘God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.’ What would it look like for that truth to reshape one area of your life this week?

Closing Prayer

Pray for one another and for God to remind us of his grace to us in Jesus. Thank Jesus that he died for us all, the ‘upright’ and the ‘wicked’. Ask him to help us enter into his sanctuary and to be changed.
