Going Deeper (24th May ’26)

Each week we’re publishing some questions to think about based on the Sunday messages & Bible readings.

These can be used in home groups, with others or on your own, and are designed to help you engage in the passage and themes in more depth and reflect on how God might be speaking to you through them.

Icebreaker Question

When or where have you especially felt the presence of the Holy Spirit?

Prayer

Holy Spirit, we thank you for your presence with us now.
Just as You filled Your people at Pentecost, fill us again today.
Open our hearts to Your voice, give us unity, boldness, and joy,
and help us recognise Your presence moving among us.
Reveal Jesus to us as we listen and share.
Amen.

Reading & Questions

Read Acts 2:1-16 & 37-41 and John 7:37-39

  1. Jesus calls those who are thirsty and the Psalmist (Ps. 42) speaks of thirsting after God. Have you ever been in a place where you could identify with this thirst?
  2. Jesus speaks of coming to him and drinking - and several passages of Scripture speak of drinking living water - how do you understand the significance of this metaphor (in practice)
  3. Jesus’ invitation in John 7 together with Peter’s invitation in Acts 2 is an invitation to all: in what ways might we be tempted to mitigate that inclusivity?
  4. The first disciples heard (and felt?) a mighty wind, saw tongues like fire, and found themselves speaking in tongues: what would you recognise as marks of the Holy Spirit’s presence?

Closing Prayer

Conclude this time together by praying for the world, our church, for those you love and for each other.
Pray that each of you would receive the quenching of the living water, and that the same living water would flow from you to others.
